Richard Harrison Lyne, 85 of Vero Beach FL, passed away on Sunday, May 3rd 2015 at Indian River Medical Center. Richard was born November 8, 1929 in San Francisco California. He was raised in San Antonio TX, and joined the Army in 1947. During his time in the service, he was stationed in Germany and held the rank of Corporal. Richard was discharged honorably in 1951 with unfortunate heart issues.
Richard was married in 1955 to his first wife, Jewell Boggs of whom they have four sons and three daughters. Jewell passed away in 2003. Richard married Dottie Dean in 2005.
He was a dedicated community servant and professional. He worked in data processing in Houston TX., until his retirement. Following retirement he moved to Onalaska TX and built homes for his family on Lake Livingston. While in Onalska, he belonged to FUMC of Livingston TX. In the 90's, he and his wife Jewell were home parents at the Methodist Children's home for over six years. He was a Methodist Lay Minister and belonged to the Congress on Evangelism NAUME. Richard is a past President of United Methodist Men and AARP social club as well as President of DMA, Livingston UMC.
In 2011, Richard and Dottie moved to Vero Beach to be closer to family. They joined the First United Church of Vero Beach in 2014. While serving the church, Richard would perform Simon Peter and Dottie would sing for his opening. They enjoyed traveling; serving the church and the community, cruising and Richard loved the game of golf.
Richard is survived by his loving wife Dorothy "Dottie" Dean Lyne; sons, Richard Lyne Jr. of Cypress Springs TX and David Lyne of Burkburnet, TX, Hugh Boggs of Houston, TX, and daughter, Shelia Brinkman of Houston, TX.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, May 14, 2015, at First Methodist Church in Vero Beach, FL. Military Honors will follow.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations to Methodist Children's Home.
