Richard Warner
Paull
Apr 5, 1924 — Dec 16, 2017
Richard Warner Paull age 93 of Vero Beach and formerly of Marion, died peacefully on December 16, 2017 after a brief illness. He was the son of the late John Paull of Edgartown and Grace (Warner) Paull of Taunton.
Dick, or as he was known by many as "Richie", was a respected attorney in Marion and throughout Southeastern Massachusetts until his retirement and relocation to Florida in the mid 1990's.
Dick proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II after attending Military School in Florida. His active duty career included time aboard a Navy Landing Tank Ship in the North Atlantic. Following his service in the Navy, Dick worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation after receiving training in Quantico, Virginia before deciding to switch careers and attend law school.
Dick gave back a considerable amount of his time to the Marion and Vero Beach Communities. He was a founding member of the Marion Historical Society. He was President of the local Boy Scouts Council (what is now the Narragansett Council) and was active with the Troop in New Bedford. He was one of the founding members of the Indian River Land Trust in Vero Beach in order to preserve land along the Indian River.
Dick was very active in local and county politics and liked nothing better than engaging in spirited dinner conversations with friends and family. Dick was every bit a gentleman. He will be remembered for his quick wit, ready smile and good nature.
His stepmother Catherine Paull of Edgartown, of whom he was very fond, predeceased him. Survivors include his dear friend and companion Carol Buffum of Vero Beach, numerous cousins including Peter L. Paull, Jr. of Westport, James B. Paull of Andover, Dorothy P. Tongue, Jonathan E. Paull and Nancy P. Moxon all of Westport, Lynn Carter, II of Bedford, NH, David P. Carter of East Providence, RI, Susanne Carter Peck of Aspen, CO, Richard Cary Paull of Englewood, FL, and numerous good friends and associates including Michelle O' Grady of Edgartown.
Arrangements are by the Cox-Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach and online condolences may be shared at www.coxgiffordseawinds.com
