Richard Foster Smith, 80, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed into spirit on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, at VNA Hospice House.

He was born November 1, 1938, in Newark, NJ to the late Charles Richard Smith and Elizabeth Foster Smith.  Richard graduated high school in Bristol, PA in 1956.  He received his mechanical engineering degree from Lafayette College, Easton, PA, in 1960.  He worked for United Engineers for over 20 years in Philadelphia.

Following retirement from United Engineers, he sailed to Vero Beach.  During the 1980s, Richard worked as assistant dock master at Vero Beach Marina.  He also worked for Calgon Carbon as a mechanical engineer from 1984 until retirement in 2009. Richard met and married Caron Sisk on November 19, 1994, at Unity Church, Vero Beach.  They enjoyed life on their sailboat "Bird of Paradise".

Richard leaves his memories to be cherished by his wife, Caron; daughter, Sharon (Mike) Norton and grandson, Nicolas Norton of Gainesville, FL; son, Stephen Smith of Alexandria, VA; stepson, David (Denise) Brocksmith of Vero Beach; step-grandchildren, Leslie, David, Alex and Amanda Brocksmith; sister, Caryl (Billy) Gallagher and brother, James Smith of Newportville, PA.

A celebration of Richard's life will be held 2 pm, Friday, March 8, 2019, at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home, 1950 20th Street, Vero Beach, FL.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Association of Vero Beach, www.alzpark.org.
