Richard L. Swart, born in Manchester, New York, in 1919 died Tuesday. August 18 at 12:00 noon as a result of complications brought on by Alzheimers Disease. He was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy Wood, and is survived by his wife, Martha Swart. He was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corp, flying 78 missions in a Martin Marauder B-26 out of England which included 3 bomb raids on D-Day. Children include, daughters, Barbara Harburg, Tricia Perry, and son, Richard Swart Jr., two sons-in-law, Robert Perry and John Harburg, daughter-in-law, Chris Swart, thirteen grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren., all of Michigan; one step-son, Tom Brian, step-daughter-in-law, Nancy Brian and 1 step-grandson of Tulsa, OK. Richard was a graduate of Buffalo State University and Syracuse University, working as an industrial designer in Michigan for various companies including Chrysler Corporation. In later years, he became a registered investment advisor, owning his own company.
He and Martha came to Barefoot Bay in 1996. He was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church where he previously served on the board. Later, as a member of the Sebastian United Methodist Church, he served on the Staff Parish Committee, sang in the choir and was an integral part of the adult teaching staff. He held membership in the Sebastian River 1767 Moose Club and the Barefoot Bay British Club. Richard also served as commander of the Barefoot Bay VFW and was active in the Barefoot Bay Lions Club.
Service will be held at 10:30AM, August 21, 2009 at Seawinds Funeral Home Chapel in Sebastian, Fl. Burial will follow at Fl National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL with Military Honors.
