Rita Torreson Cocks of Highland Mills, NY and Vero Beach, FL passed away Thursday, October 2, 2008. She was born December 28, 1913 in Brooklyn, NY. The wife of the late Bryant F. Cocks and the loving mother of Frederick Cocks and wife Virginia of Monroe, NY; Thomas Cocks and wife Elizabeth of Boca Raton, FL; Rita Carlson of Vero Beach, FL and Michael Cocks and wife Susan of Highland Mills, NY. Predeceased by daughter Mimzie Provost. She was the beloved grandmother of fourteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren. She will be missed greatly by all.
Rita was a charter member of the Highland Mills Fire Co. Auxiliary and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, St. Patricks Church of Highland Mills and the Woodbury Senior Citizens. She was an alumni of Thevent Hall of Highland Mills and a volunteer of Care Net of Vero Beach.
The family will receive friends 2-4 pm, Sunday, October 5, 2008 at Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach with a prayer service at 4 pm. Rita will be transferred to the Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush Funeral Home in Highland Mills for a Mass at Bethany Retreat House. Interment will be at St Anastasia Cemetery in Harriman, NY.
