Rita King
Rizzo
Jan 15, 1929 — Jul 10, 2019
Vero Beach
Rita King Rizzo cherished her roles as wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. Rita MaryEllen was born January 15, 1929 to Mildred and Joseph Richard in Queens, NY. She left this life on earth for her heavenly home on July 10, 2019. Rita had two sisters, Joan Bourgeois-Otis and Edith McGuirk-Mathisen, and one brother, Joseph Richard Jr. She was united in marriage to George F King, Sr on August 30, 1947. They made their home in Wantagh, NY in 1953. They had four children Patricia (Bob) Graziano , Diane (Randy) Flynn, George (Patti) King, and Thomas (Marcea) King.
Following the death of her first husband George in 1984, she met and married Michael A Rizzo, in January 1995. Mike had three children, Andy (MaryAnna) Rizzo, Michael (Ellen) Rizzo, and MaryAnne (Orlando) Paulino.
Rita formed strong and long lasting friendships with those lucky enough to know her. She had special interests in home decorating and crafts. She was an accomplished seamstress and cook. It's been said that she was able to rub two nickels together and make them into a quarter. Most of all, she was able to turn every house she lived in into a warm, welcoming and loving home. She enjoyed travelling and took trips to Germany, and then later NY and MN to visit family. She and Mike enjoyed many cruises. In her later years, she enjoyed decorating the halls and common areas with beautiful seasonal decorations at Indian River Estates. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, Lady Columbiets, Lunch Bunch, and Ladies Group at St John of the Cross Church. Mom loved to peruse mail order catalogs and watch QVC Home Shopping Network in search of perfect and unique gifts for her loves ones. Until eight months before her death, she was driving the ladies from her building to church on Saturdays. She enjoyed having a glass or two of white wine. And oh, how she loved her ice cream! She dearly loved her family, her good friends, and her church and we will all miss her very much. We thank her caregivers, and especially hospice, for the thoughtful care extended to her in her last days.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands George F King, Sr, and Mike Rizzo, her sisters, and her daughter Pat.
She is survived by her brother, her children, step-children, her grandchildren; Jennifer (Tony) Wingate, MaryEllen (Eddie) Cedeno, Scott (Denise) Flynn, David (Jennifer Brigati) Flynn , Michelle King (Steve Shaver), George Robert King, Elizabeth (Aaron) Holland, Christina (Matt) Braun, David (Alexandria) Von Eschen, Zachary (Kyle Buss) Von Eschen, Andy (Hallie) Rizzo, Andrea (Eric) Velez, Valerie Rizzo, Orlando Paulino, Gino Paulino, Maria Paulino, and her great-grandchildren; Ryan Wingate, Jordan Wingate, Kristen Wingate, Layla Cedeno, Lucas Cedeno, Emily Flynn, Ryan Flynn, Kory Flynn, Randy Flynn, Weston Holland, Gabriella Velez, and E.J.
