Rob Squires, 40 , died on January 2, 2009 at his home in Vero Beach, Florida surrounded by his wife, son, family and friends. After a long and courageous fight with ALS, Jesus set him free and walked with him through the gates of heaven.
Rob was born July 23, 1968 in Jacksonville, Florida. A graduate of Orange Park High School (1986) and The University of Florida (1991). He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing. After graduation, he began working for Mac Papers and quickly became a top Account Representative.
In 1999, Rob married the love of his life, Diana Thorne of Vero Beach. They lived in Stuart, FL and were blessed with a son, Jackson in 2001. Due to Robs illness, he moved his family to Vero Beach in 2003 to be surrounded by the love and support of their families.
Rob was a devoted and loving husband and father. He has been a loyal servant of Jesus Christ since 1997. Family and friends regard him as kind, generous, compassionate, supportive and an empathetic listener. Many were drawn to his internal flame that exuded the genuine warmth and love he felt towards others. His love of life was expressed by his famous smile, which was just as famous as his love for The Florida Gators.
Rob is survived by his loving wife of 10 years, Diana, one son Jackson Thomas Squires, parents, Karen & Thomas Squires of Jacksonville, FL and Vero Beach, FL, brother Randy Squires of Tampa, FL, grandfather, Thomas Baker of Jacksonville, FL and his mother and father-in-law, Becky and Les Thorne, brother and sister-in-law, Michael & Charissa Thorne and niece, Olivia Thorne.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday January 17, 2009 at 2:00 at First Baptist Church 2206 16th Avenue Vero Beach, FL 32960 . There will be a reception immediately following the service at the churchs Family Life Center. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Robs name to VNA Hospice 1110 35th Lane Vero Beach, FL 32960 or, for ALS research, to the Florida Chapter at ALSFL.org.
