Robert Carl Bancroft, 89, of Watertown died Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at the Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach, FL.

Mr. Bancroft was born July 16, 1922 in Watertown, and had been a lifetime resident. He had been a winter resident of Vero Beach since 1984.

He was a parishioner of Bethany Methodist Church, and was a member of the Sportsmen's Club in Watertown.

Robert was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his grandchildren at his cottage.

Prior to his retirement he worked for 31 years for the Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation, and ended his career as a foreman for the under ground cable crews..

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Maryann; sons Frederick Bancroft of Watertown, NY, and Robert Bancroft Jr. of Chaumont, NY; daughter Kathy Grant of Watertown, NY; sister Helen Loveland of Watertown, NY; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Bonnie Kelly; sisters Irene, Marg, Lillian and Betty; brothers George and Harvey; and step-son Donald Dillabaugh.

Services: A memorial service will be held at the Spanish Lakes Country Club Clubhouse on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at 1:00PM. A spring memorial service will be held in Watertown at a later date.
