Dr. Robert William "Dr. Bob" Conn, Jr., D.D.S., 91, of Vero Beach, Florida, died Wednesday, December 20, 2023.
He was born to the late Dr. Robert W. and Emma M. (Bernhardt) Conn, Sr., D.D.S. on July 4, 1932 in Buffalo, NY.
He was President of the Senior Class and graduated from Amherst Central High School in 1951. He was a member of the National Honor Society.
He attended The University of Buffalo College of Arts and Sciences from 1951 – 1954, majoring in Biology. He then attended The University of Buffalo Dental School from 1954 – 1958 and graduated on June 8, 1958 with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. He was a member of the National Dental Honor Society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon.
He and his wife, the late Arlene L. Landreville, were married on June 28, 1958 in Buffalo. They raised two children together, daughter Lynne A, Conn, and son, William P. "Bill" Conn.
He joined the United States Air Force as a Dental Officer on September 12, 1958, and was discharged on September 11, 1960, with the rank of Captain. Duty stations included an airbase in Goose Bay, Labrador, Canada, and Springfield, MA. He practiced General Dentistry with his father from September 1960 until moving to Warren, PA to join Warren Dental Arts (a group dental practice) in April 1962. In 1966, he accepted a staff position in the dental department of the Warren State Hospital. He was promoted to Director of Dental Services in 1968. After retiring in October of 1989, he and Arlene moved to Vista Plantation in Vero Beach.
He was a retired Kiwanian with 40 years of perfect attendance combined between Warren and Vero Beach. He was a Deacon and an Elder at The First Presbyterian Church of Warren, PA, and a Deacon at The Community Church of Vero Beach, where he also served many years as an usher and "Pew Engineer".
He is survived by his daughter, Lynne A. Conn of Vero Beach; daughter-in-law Elizabeth J. "Betty" Bucior Conn of Warren, PA; and his two nephews, David (wife Dionna Baltos and daughter Danielle) Rettig of Key Largo, FL, and Roger C. Rettig of Westminster, CO.
A memorial service will be held at The Community Church of Vero Beach on January 25th at 1:00 pm. Interment will be in the Memory Garden at the church, at the family's convenience.
