Obituary

Robert C. French, age 92, died October 22, 2016, at The Cabana at Jensen Dunes in Jensen Beach, Florida. He was born in West Haven, Connecticut on June 6, 1924. He is the son of the late Charles I. French, Jr. and Marion Meyer French Blake. He lived in Port St. Lucie for several years, coming from Milford, CT.

He was a Vice President of the former First Bank in New Haven, CT, having retired in 1981. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra for many years and served as its treasurer for nine years. He was a member of the University Glee Club of New Haven for 50 years and a member of the American Association of English Handbell Ringers.

He graduated in 1942 from West Haven High School, and was a graduate of the Williams School of Banking. He served on the board of the Longmeadow Condominium Assoc. in Milford, CT. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army as a technical sergeant in the European theater for three years. He was a world traveler and traveled to all continents except Australia. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in West Haven, CT. and St. Mary's Church in Stuart, Florida.

He is survived by nieces Karen Monaco and Gail Novotny, and nephew Alfred Conklin III. He was preceded in death by his sister, Janet French Conklin and her husband Alfred Conklin Jr. He had many cherished friends both North and South, in particular, David Atkins, and James Booth of Florida.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Stuart, Florida, Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 11:00 am. Contributions may be made to the Memorial Garden of St. Mary's Episcopal Church.
