Robert A. Marra,77, died on October 1, 2009 at William Childs Hospice House, Palm Bay, Florida.
Bob was born in Corona, New York, living most of his adult years in Connecticut. He moved to Palm Bay Florida in 1998. Bob and wife Nancy moved to Micco, Florida in April 2004.
Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to l954. He was stationed with Battery "B" 469th Field Artillery Battalion, Fort Sill Oklahoma, serving as First Cook and Baker. Sergeant Marra gave of himself unselfishly doing a superior job training personnel. The food from his mess hall was said to be the tastiest and best prepared and always enjoyed by fellow G. I.'s and officers in the United States Army.
After his discharge from the Army Bob worked for various bakers, gaining more experience before
opening his own. Marra's Bakery, in Norwalk, became the first among many throughout Connecticut. His last Bakery was Nice N' Fresh Bakery in Bridgeport. He was especially known for his rye bread, melt-away-Danish and birthday cakes. Bob's favorite past time was boating and spent many an hour fishing for bluefish and flounder on the Long Island Sound.
Bob is survived by his wife of ten years, Nancy, his sister Joan in Yorktown Heights, New York, four sons, Peter, Michael, Robert and Erik, a daughter Nina, and a number of grandchildren.
A Tribute to Life, will be held in the Pelican Bay Mobile Home Community club house in Micco, to be announced at a later date.
