Robert D. Wilkey, 77, of Fort Pierce, FL died Sunday, November 15, 2009 at the VA Medical Center in West Palm Beach, FL.
Mr. Wilkey was born March 11, 1932 in Buffalo, NY and moved to Fort Pierce 12 years ago from Springville, NY.
He had been a manager for NYNEX, retiring after 35 years, and a 100% Disabled Veteran of the Korean War, serving in the US Air Force. Mr. Wilkey had been a volunteer at the Sardinia Volunteer Fire Department and the Springville Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Wilkey was Webloes Scout leader, a co-founder and board member of the Springville Swim Club, a volunteer at the American Red Cross in Buffalo, NY and Martin County, a member of the Republican Committee and an EMT at Bertrand Chaffee Hospital in Springville.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Joanne K. Wilkey of Fort Pierce; sons Donald R. Wilkey of Fort Pierce and Duane D. Wilkey of Erie, PA; daughters Lisa R. Grippe of Lawrenceville, GA and Peggy L. Gardner of Jacksonville, FL; brother Tom Wilkey of Washington, DC; and six grandchildren.
He was predeceased by an infant daughter Lorraine A. Wilkey.
Services: A service will be held at a later date in New York.
