April 30, 1931 – September 18, 2021
Ruth E. Cook, 90, of Vero Beach, passed away September 18, 2021. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio and had been a resident of Vero Beach since 1972, having relocated from Hollywood, FL. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Vero Beach. She drove a school bus for Indian River County, St. Edward's School, the Bloodmobile and Life for Youth Ranch. She had been a Girl Scout leader and later volunteered to assist them. She also volunteered with 4–H, the Humane Society Thrift Store, The ARC of IRC and in general enjoyed volunteering for the community. Ruth loved all sports, especially football. She had season tickets to the local High School team. She was a huge fan of the Miami Dolphins and the Marlins. She enjoyed playing games, including cards, bunko, mahjong and many others. She loved the excitement of amusement parks and roller coasters, and the enjoyment of children….lots of children. She loved unconditionally, and she made friends everywhere that she went.
She is survived by her son, Kirk Young (Monica Hood); daughter, Sandra Young Lindahl; son, Bradford Young (Darlene); daughter, Jacqueline Cook Kinnamon (Steve) and daughter, Paula Cook Sides (Tony); Grandchildren, Jennifer Stathis (John), Brett Young (Ashliv), Summer Durkin (Sean), Dr. Danielle Young (Ander Longenderfer), Brianna Frampton, Meghan Frampton and Lauren Frampton; Great Grandchildren, Louis Stathis, Vasiliki "Kiki" Stathis and Bennett Grace Durkin; and cousins, Earl F. "Buddy" Sickels (Leigh) and Barbara Ann Roth. She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Jacque A. Cook; and brothers, William "Bill" Sickels and Lester Sickels.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, October 16, 2021 at The First United Methodist Church, 1750 20th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting a donation be made in her honor to the First United Methodist Church of Vero Beach Youth Camp Fund.
