Ruth Emily Jankowski 90, of Fort Pierce passed away on Saturday May 27. She was born to the late Charles Wright and Mary Chambers Wright on May 12, 1927 in Meadville, Pennsylvania. Ruth attended the one room Ellis School as a child and graduated from Meadville High School in 1945, participating in every sport and receiving a letter. She married the late Joseph Jankowski of Southampton, New York on June 5, 1949 and they settled in Bayport, New York in 1956. Joe and Ruth moved to Spanish Lakes Country Club Village in Fort Pierce, Florida when they retired in 1985.
Ruth worked for A&P and King Kullen as a cashier and bookkeeper. After she retired Ruth fueled her creative passion by making ceramics and teaching ceramics to all her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and at the Spanish Lakes Community Center. Her class at Spanish Lakes Country Club Village considered her both a leader and a friend to everyone who came. Ruth also knitted hundreds of lap rugs for the Veterans Hospital and donated her ceramics to hospice and wherever they were needed. One of Ruth's passions was Bingo and she played regularly at Spanish Lakes and at Saint Anastasia's Catholic Church.
Ruth is survived by her sisters Mary and Flo both of Meadville, Pennsylvania. Ruth is also survived by her children: Joe Jr. of Berlin, Maryland; Kathy Walther of Jacksonville, Florida; Walter of Bayport, New York and John of Sayville, New York. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday June 24 at 11:00 am in the auditorium at Spanish Lakes Country Club Village. In lieu of flowers the family requests that you donate to your favorite charity in the name of Ruth Emily Wright Jankowski.
