Obit-Ruth Lister Davis Knirk
Ruth Lister Davis Knirk passed away Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Clare Bridge of West Melbourne, Fl. Formerly of Barrington, RI, Asheville, NC, and Vero Beach, Fl. She had been a resident of Melbourne, Fl since 2004.
Born to Robert and Violet Lister of North Providence, RI, on September 15, 1912. Ruth graduated from Connecticut College for Women in 1934 and she was married to John Kenyon Davis in 1935. They were blessed with four beloved children, Sister Jane Marie Davis, RSM, of Melbourne, Fl, Marcia Kenyon Padgett of Leesburg, Fl., Marjorie Ruth Latta of Black Mountain, NC, and John K. Davis, Jr. of Wilmington, NC.
Ruth had a long, happy, healthy life, enjoying dancing, gardening, church activities, her walking group and her children and grandchildren.
In the second phase of her life, at age 81, Ruth married Carl Knirk and , together, they traveled to Paris, Alaska, Canada, and all across the U.S.. She loved nature and was an active supporter of the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute. At the age of 90, she boarded the ship Polaris to visit the Galapagos Islands to view nature in all of its glory.
Ruth leaves, to cherish her memory, her four children; five grandchldren, Horton Gray Jolly, Douglas Kenyon Jolly, Christopher Allen Latta, Jeffrey Latta, Brain Latta, and three great grandchildren, Robert Jolly, Davis Jolly, and Philip Jolly.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in Ruths name to Wuesthoff (Brevard County) Hospice, 8060 Spy Glass Road; Viera, Florida 32940.
