Avis Northrup-Vanik, 93, of Vero Beach, FL died Monday, January 16, 2012 at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, FL.

Mrs. Northrup-Vanik was born August 21, 1918 in Bradford, PA and moved to Vero Beach in 1960 from Jersey Shore, PA.

Prior to retirement she had worked for the Indian River County School Board first as the receptionist before becoming the Executive Secretary for several department heads.

She had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach where she served as a Deacon and was a part of the choir. She had been a Girl Scout Leader during the 1960's, a member of the Indian River Medical Center Auxiliary (Pink Ladies), a member of the Vero Beach Country Club and the School Board Lunch Bunch Retirees.

Survivors include her daughter Patti (Marshall) Voyles of Vero Beach; a sister Marcia White of Gaithersburg, MD; step-daughter Nancy (Scott) Baker of Ft. Collins, CO; step-son Bill (Mary) Vanik of Sarasota, FL; two grandsons Spec. Robbie Voyles, USArmy of Ft. Benning, GA and Petty Officer 2c George C. Voyles, USNavy of Bahrain; four step-grandchildren Sara Hernandez of Ponte Verda, FL, Alexis Gordon of Windsor, CO, Ben Vanik of Seattle, WA and Jon Vanik of Sarasota, FL; four step-great grandchildren Tyler and Amelia Hernandez, and Baker and Harrison Gordon; and nieces Sandra, Carol, Janice, Linda and Marcia Jean.

She was preceded in death by her first husband George Northrup, her brother Bob McOomber, and her brother-in-law George White.

Services: The family will receive friends 4-7 PM, Saturday, February 4, 2012 at the Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral in Vero Beach with a Life Celebration Service at 7 PM the Rev. Gary Moore officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Ft. Pierce, FL.
