Samuel "Sam" Lee Shields, 78, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 19, 2024. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio, in October of 1946, to the late Charles and Edith (Carter) Shields.
Sam proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, an experience that shaped his life and instilled in him a deep sense of duty and service. Following his military service, he worked as a Senior Line Specialist for Florida Power and Light and was a dedicated member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). Sam spent many years working hard in the electrical field, known for his commitment and skill.
Sam was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Annette; daughters, Michelle Smith of Fort Pierce, and Stacy Brock (Ronnie) of Vero Beach; grandchildren, Zoe Harmon (Joe) of Fort Pierce, Justin Smith and his significant other, Julia Amelio, of Fort Pierce, and Caleigh Pressley of Vero Beach. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Norma Ottman, Eddie Powell, and Mike Powell.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Sam's life will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach.
Sam will be remembered for his strength, dedication to his family, and his contributions to his community through his work and union membership. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) in Sam's honor.
