Sue Bull Barkett, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully, at home, on Thursday, June 24, 2022, at the age of 89.
Sue was born to Maude Seiler and Coates P. Bull ll, on September 6, 1932, in St. Paul Minnesota. She later moved to Greensboro, North Carolina with her family where she graduated from High School in 1950. She received her BS, in nursing in 1954 and her MSN in nursing in 1956, from Emory University. She worked at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, GA until she married, in 1959.
Sue Barkett moved to Vero Beach in 1965 with children and husband, Dr. George A. Barkett. Sue was an active member of her Vero Beach community. She was a charter member of the Rose Circle of the Garden Club of Indian River County. She was also a charter member of The Treasure Coast Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Strate, daughter Andrea Barkett, her husband Kirby Kenney, their three children, Samuel, Anna, Lily Smith, her husband Ian and their daughter, Ava. She also leaves behind her son, Douglas Barkett, his wife Rita and their daughter, Megan. Sue Barkett cherished all of her large, extended family and was loved by them in return. Her sisters and brothers -in-law, nieces and nephews gave her joy, pride and companionship.
She enjoyed working in her yard, arranging flowers, reading, learning, travel and entertaining.
Services will be held on Friday, July 1 st , at 10:00 a.m., at the Cox-Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home, 1950 20 th Street Vero Beach, FL 32960. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Following the burial, the family will host a mercy meal at Trinity Episcopal Church, 2365 Pine Avenue, Vero Beach, Florida 32960
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Rose Circle of the Garden Club of Indian River County.
