NILES, Susan "Sue" Kay, 74, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2022, at Kindred Hospital in Melbourne, Florida. Born in St. Louis, Missouri to Charles Howard and Mary Cecelia Foster. She is survived by, and also loving mother to Brenda Niles and loyal companion Bentley the dog. She moved to Miami, Florida in 1951, and graduated from Coral Gables Senior High. In 1967 Sue worked as a certified dental assistant and radiologist for various Miami dental practices. In 1976, Sue attended the certified Dental assisting Program at the University of North Carolina. Sue was the President of the local Miami Dade Dental Assisting Society and was also the Clinical and Business Manager of the Craniomandibular and Temporomandibular Joint treatment Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. In 1978, Sue became the Dental Clinic Coordinator for a 20-chair clinic at the L.D. Pankey Institute for advanced dental education. She presented workshops in many cities of the U.S. and abroad. In 1992, Sue taught Health Science at the Miami Dade Public Schools, and helped teach medical skills, physics, and life science. She served as the HIV/AIDS resource teacher, and crisis intervention counselor on special assignment for Naranja Elementary, and Homestead Middle School. These were special assignments in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew. She counseled students with PTSD, suicide ideation, abuse, and stress management. Sue worked with FEMA and the University of Miami Psychiatric Department. Sue also received her Bachelor of Science in Health Occupations Education Cum Laude at FIU in Miami. In 1994, she worked as an educator in the Miami Dade Public School System as an instructor in an approved American Dental Association Vocational Program for Dental Assisting at Robert Morgan Educational Center. Sue's interests are reading, psychology, education, alternative medicine, body building, cooking, art museums, plays, and concerts. . Her other interest was Real Estate which she received her Real Estate License and worked for the Coral Gables branch at EWM in 2003. She and her brother Bill who recently passed in 2019, loved owning a 12-unit building called Foster Apartments across from the U of M in Coral Gables that her family helped build years ago but then sold, and Sue moved to retire to Vero Beach in 2012. Sue loved living in Vero Beach.
