Susan Kathleen (Scanlan) Samson

Susan Kathleen (Scanlan) Samson, 74, passed away peacefully at her home in Vero Beach, Florida, on August 11, 2025, with her devoted husband by her side.

Born on October 8, 1950, in Stamford, Connecticut, to Thomas M. and Marie K. Scanlan, Sue lived a life defined by compassion, dedication, and love for her family. After graduating from Framingham South High School in 1968, she went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Lowell State College in 1972 and later a Master of Science in Nursing from Boston University in 1978. Her career began in the demanding environment of the emergency room at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, where her skill and steady presence touched countless lives.

In 1974, Sue married Joseph Samson, beginning a partnership of more than fifty years filled with devotion, adventure, and enduring friendship. Together they built a life in Dover, Massachusetts, where they raised their family while Sue continued her nursing career. Summers at their cherished home on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire became the heart of family life, a place filled with laughter, relaxation, and treasured gatherings with friends. In 1987, the family's journey took them abroad to Dublin, Ireland, for three memorable years before returning to Dover, where Sue found her calling as a beloved school nurse, caring for students with the same warmth she shared with her own children.

Sue is survived by her husband, Joe, who lovingly stood by her side in all of life's seasons. She leaves behind her two sons, Andrew (Kajal) Samson of Rehoboth, Massachusetts, and Timothy (Natalie) Samson of Boerne, Texas, who made her immeasurably proud. The lights of her later years were her grandchildren, Carter and Colin Samson, who brought her endless joy. She is also survived by her sisters, Cindy Scanlan of Osterville, Massachusetts, and Kathy Scanlan of Dartmouth, Massachusetts, and her brothers, Thomas (Kristin) Scanlan of Somerville, Massachusetts, and Mark (Wendy) Scanlan of Sterling, Massachusetts, as well as a niece, many nephews, and dear friends.

In retirement, Sue and Joe embraced life in Vero Beach, Florida, where she found great joy in golfing, cultivating deep friendships, and being part of the vibrant Indian River Club community. She will be remembered not only for her professional dedication and accomplishments, but also for her kindness, wit, and the unwavering love she offered to those fortunate enough to know her.

Sue will reach her final resting place on Friday, October 10th at 2:30pm when her ashes are interred at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne alongside her parents.

A celebration of life will be held from 2:00 - 4:00pm on Saturday, October 11th 2025 in Rehoboth, Massachusetts.
