T. Carlton Turner, 95, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 in Vero Beach, Florida. He was born September 20, 1914 in Centreville, Maryland, the son of the late Elva Draper Turner and Thompson Garrison Turner, Sr. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Bateman Turner, Thompson Turner, Draper Turner, Franklin Turner, Aldred Turner and his son, Darth Edward Turner.
He grew up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and later relocated with his family to Chester, Pennsylvania. He graduated from the Glen-Nor High School in Glenolden, Pennsylvania in 1934. He attended Temple University.
He began a 48 year career in the automobile industry with a position at Ford Motor Company. In 1951, he and his brother Audie Turner opened Turner Motors, a Studebaker and Packard Dealership in West Chester, Pennsylvania. In 1958, he affiliated with Mercedes Benz and became one of the original Mercedes Benz dealers in the United States. He retired in 1982 after 31 years at Turner Motors.
He served as president of the West Chester Automobile Dealers Association and the Chester County Automobile Dealers Association. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Automobile Dealers Association. He served on the West Chester Planning Commission and was a former member of the West Chester Rotary Club and the West Chester Country Club.
Following his retirement, he lived part-time in Williamsburg, Virginia and Vero Beach, Florida. His later years were spent in Vero Beach. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach. He enjoyed traveling the world and was an avid golfer in retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Eleanor Turner and sons Travers Carlton Turner, Exton, Pennsylvania and Thomas Samuel Turner of Roanoke, Virginia. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Lynn Wilson Turner, Williamsburg, Virginia and grandchildren, Ryan E. Turner, Ashley T. Brooks (Jeffrey), Stephanie B. Turner, Cameron D. Turner, Clark C. Turner and great-grandchild, Kylie Lynne Brooks. In all that he did, he was devoted to the well being of his family.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg, Virginia. Interment will be in the church columbarium.
