Thomas Edward McDevitt, 55, of Vero Beach passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2012 at the Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.
Mr. McDevitt was born February 8, 1955 in Brighton, Massachusetts. He had been a resident of Vero Beach for 25 years, coming from Massachusetts.
He worked as a comptroller in the firearms industry, and the citrus industry for 20 years.
Thomas was a volunteer for the Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County, and was inducted as an honorary board member for his service. He was a member of the Humane Society's Disaster Response Team, and traveled to other states rescuing animals displaced by natural disasters.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Mary Elizabeth McDevitt; children, Matilda, Mason and Merlin; sisters Lorraine Frances Edwards of Pembroke, Massachusetts, Catherine M. Brooks of South Weymouth, Massachusetts, and Eugenia T. Faucette of Summerville, South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene J. and Mary E. McDevitt; and his sister Mary Elizabeth McDevitt.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, November 19, 2012 at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach. Interment will follow in Crestlawn Cemetery in Vero Beach.
