Obituary

Captain Thomas James Port, 91, died Tuesday, August 30, 2016. He was born May 30, 1925 on Staten Island, NY. Tom graduated from Peekskill Military Academy, served in the Coast Guard during WW II and was a Sandy Hook Pilot, piloting ships in and out of New York Harbor. He piloted the tall ship "Esmeralda" during the 1976 Op-Sail bicentennial celebration in NYC.
He is survived by his loving wife and soul mate, Pamela, of Vero Beach and daughters Susan Boda (Daniel) of Columbus, Ohio and Jacqueline McNally (Robert) of Vero Beach; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Tom loved traveling the world, was a fabulous cook, creating many recipes from his travels. He enjoyed tennis, golf, photography, sailing, swimming and carpentry. He was known for his kind heart, optimism and great wit.
A celebration of life service will take place at Quail Valley River Club, 2345 Highway A1A, Vero Beach, on Saturday, September 10, 2016, at 2:00 PM.
