Thomas C. "Top Shelf" Stevens, 89, passed on Wednesday, June 5, 2019. Born in Del Rio, Texas in 1930, he was the loving son of the belated Warren H. and Hilda E. (Leidholdt) Stevens.

Tom was the last surviving brother of his family, predeceased by Harvey, Fred, and Bobby. He is survived by his sisters, Dorothy Hedman of Hayward, WI and Patricia Balk of Kenosha, WI.  He is survived by his wife, Patricia Gibson, and his six children with Mary Ann Baxter Young; Thomas (Elizabeth) of Phoenix, AZ; Michael (Mathilde) of Coventry, RI; Mark (Elizabeth) of Phoenix, AZ; Mary Ann (Steven) Topp of North Kingstown, RI; Rebecca (Anthony) Moniz of North Kingstown, RI; and Bethany (Curtis) Lenderman of Chesapeake, VA plus many nieces, nephews, and cousins. His brood includes grandchildren Thomas C. Stevens III, Elizabeth, Mark, Geyssler, Sean, Richard, Katherine, Alexis, Anthony, Alycia, Samuel, Nathaniel, and Mary Jane; and great-grandchildren Aurora, Madeline, Daphne, Robert, and Christopher.

Tom retired from the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Technician Chief in 1967 at Quonset Point NAS, RI after 20 years of honorable service in naval aviation. He was active in the American Legion Post 12 serving once as the Commander, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Fleet Reserve. He spent 20 years in a second career as a field engineer with Honeywell Corporation before retiring permanently to Vero Beach in 1987. Tom donated his time, talents, and energy to several fraternal organizations, including the Vero Beach Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge 1822, Vero Beach Eagles, American Legion, Italian-American Club, and Vero Beach Veterans Club. He was passionate about service to the nation in the USN and cared deeply about veterans' issues. He will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery at a date TBD.
