IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Torbjörn "Toby"
Arnheim
June 23, 1937 – December 31, 2022
Torbjörn Anders Arnheim "Toby" of Vero Beach, Florida passed away on December 31, 2022 at the age of 85.
At the end of our lives we are but a story… the story of Toby Arnheim was one of a great love, adventure, success and travel. He entered this life on June 23, 1937 born in Malmö, Sweden the oldest son of Inga-Lilli Arnheim and Toré Westberg, and older brother to Olof, Anders and Yvonne. He moved to the Scarsdale, New York in 1949 at the age of 12 where he went on to learn English, graduate from Scarsdale high school as Senior Class President and was given early admissions to Williams College.
Toby's early career was a daily New York City commute while raising his three children and participating in activities; years filled with being a football coach, boy scout leader, and community leader. He could fix anything, remodeled his homes, and planted the most beautiful gardens. He enjoyed paddleball, tennis, skiing and sailing. The largest part of his free time was spent on helping family and friends.
He left the New York grind behind in 1976 and moved his family to the other end of the earth, Key West, Florida. There began a career that he truly loved, real estate development. The Casa Marina Hotel, the last of the Henry Flagler Hotels was his first solo project, restoring it to its former glory, bigger and better. Toby went on to develop properties such as, The Hard Rock, the Towers at Caesars Palace and Convention Center including Forum Shops in Las Vegas, NV. Universal Studios hotel properties, Portofino Bay Resort and Royal Pacific Resort and Hard Rock Hotel in Orlando, FL. In addition, he developed the Warner Brothers Movie Theme Park in Madrid, Spain and hotel and casino properties in Canada, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Spain, Germany and Poland. One of his largest properties was Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center Resort in Oxon Hill, MD, it was the largest property of its kind on the Eastern seaboard. If you find yourself sitting in one of these properties, raise a glass to Toby and "Skål" to a career well done.
Toby was a true friend, with a quick wit and warm demeanor. He collected friends easily and if you worked closely with Toby, it would end in a lifelong friendship. One of his greatest passions was mentoring, and after accomplishing what he had as an immigrant, he felt anything was possible for anyone.
A loving father and husband, he was fiercely loyal to his family and those he loved. Left to carry on the beautiful Swedish traditions he so loved and nurtured is his wife Denny, as well as his children Toby, Jr. (Marion) Arnheim, Deborah (Jeffrey 1959-2021) Kern, Timothy (Mary Lynn) Arnheim, step-daughter Heather Donlan. Grandchildren Toby III (Courtney) Arnheim, Katherine (William) Hodges, Robert Arnheim, Maggie Kern, David Kern, Nicholas (Darrah) Arnheim, Gregory Arnheim, Sarah Arnheim, Abby, Sophie and Hudson Sinberg and 9 great grand-children, Mason and Bryson Stevens, Owen and Avery Arnheim, Mary Watterson and Francis Arnheim, Henry, Winnie, and Lily Hodges.
