V. Harriet Piranian, 82 of Vero Beach (formally of Stonington, CT, Upper Arlington, OH , Bedford, MA) passed away Monday December 5.
Born in Arlington, MA to Charles and Nuvart Semonian, Harriet grew up in Medford, MA, attended Tufts University and graduated with a degree in elementary education from Lesley University in Boston. Harriet had a long and distinguished career as an elementary school educator that spanned more than 7 decades.
Her teaching career started in the late 50's in Mt. Vernon, NY, then took her "back home" to the Boston area, then to Upper Arlington, OH and Stonington, CT. Finally, after relocating from CT to FL to "retire", Harriet went back to teach, and in 2004, at the age of 71 accepted a full time position in Vero Beach for a teacher on medical leave. Harriet substituted until 2013 as she continued to make an impact on the many she touched.
Devoted to her respective school communities and her family, the brother of Robert (Bob) Semonian and loving and devoted wife of 51 years to husband Alex Piranian who both preceded her in death. Survived by three sons , Michael of Carlsbad, CA (Sheila ), Richard of Vero Beach, FL and Charles of Brentwood, TN (Ginger) , 5 grandchildren, 4 nieces and sisters in law Dorothy Piranian and Margot Semonian.
In lieu of flowers, please send a book to the elementary school of your choice. Services will be held a later date in Vero Beach and in the Boston area.
