Vincent A. Stanton, Jr., 82, of Vero Beach, FL died Monday, February 9, 2009 at his home.
Mr. Stanton was born March 15, 1926 in Johnstown, PA and moved to Vero Beach in 1986, returning to Becket, MA during the summer.
He was a graduate of Lehigh University with a BS in Metallurgical Engineering and was a veteran of WW II, serving in the US Army Air Force and trained as a bombardier. Mr. Stanton first worked for Babcock and Wilcox Company in Alliance, OH, then became Chief Metallurgist for National Standard Company in Niles, MI. He next served as Chief Metallurgical Engineer and General Manager of Cheney Bigelow in Springfield, MA before becoming the President and Owner of J. & S. Metals Inc., in Bristol, CT.
He was an avid fisherman, sailor, golfer, and a Grady White Boat owner. Mr. Stanton was a past member of the Anglers Club, the Grady Bunch, the Blandford Golf Club, and Vero Beach Country Club. He was a communicant of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Norma Galehouse Stanton of Vero Beach and Becket, MA; daughters Karen Rannenberg of Backhamsted, CT and Gail Stanton of Holland, PA; sons Mike Stanton of Belchertown, MA; Jeff Stanton of Canton Center, CT, Eric Stanton of Cherry Valley, IL and Andy Stanton of Pleasant Valley, CT; sister, Faye Blum of Fort Mill, SC; and eleven grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his sister Mary Lou Carrellas.
Services: A Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM, Friday, February 13, 2009, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach. A memorial service will take place in Connecticut in June.
