Violet Lillian Vester, 93, of Vero Beach, FL died May 14, 2009 at Indian River Estates.
Mrs. Vester was born January 19, 1916 in New York City, but spent most of her life in Springfield and Longmeadow, MA before retiring to Vero Beach in 1981. She received a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Northeastern University, her Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) designation from Hartford College, and an Honorary Bachelor of Arts Degree from Western New England College. Mrs. Vester retired from the home office of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. after 25 years of service.
During her years in Massachusetts she was active in the Womens Auxiliary of the Baystate Medical Center, Wesson Memorial Hospital Unit where she was a hospital volunteer for a number of years. Mrs. Vester also served the National Secretaries Association, International in a variety of capacities including corresponding secretary, was pledge secretary of St. Barnabas and All Saints Episcopal Church, and class secretary of the Western New England College Alumni Association. In addition, she avidly pursued her favorite pastimes of ballroom dancing and duplicate bridge. Upon arrival in Vero Beach she became a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church and also participated in her favorite activities for many years.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 57 years, Karl Albert Vester, and sister, Florence Emily Augustus. She is survived by 2 daughters: Nancy V. Cunningham of Isle os Palms, SC and Betsy A. Craun of Vero Beach; 4 grandchildren: Susan K. Cunningham of Baltimore, MD, Holly C. Spadorcia of Taylors, SC, Shawna L. Cunningham of Portland, OR and Brendon S. Tynan of Sterling, VA; and a number of cousins, nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
