Obituary

Virginia M. Girten, 101, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.

Born December 9, 1923, in Uniontown, Kentucky, Ginny was the daughter of the late James Thomas and Edith Reid Minton. She moved to Vero Beach in 1981 from Miami, Florida, with her beloved husband, the late Robert Harry Girten.

Before retiring, Ginny worked as a legal secretary. She was a devoted member of the Disciples of Christ Church in Vero Beach and was active in the Vero Beach Quilt Guild (formerly the Sun Bonnet Sue Quilters). In her retirement, she continued to enjoy cooking, sewing, and quilting—activities that brought her joy and allowed her to share her talents with others.

Ginny is survived by her three children: Robert Dale Girten and his wife Linda of Southport, North Carolina; Sharon Ann Richards and her husband Tom of Vero Beach; and Ginny McAlarnen and her husband Matthew, also of Vero Beach. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jennifer Girten of Southport, North Carolina, Chris Girten of Waco, Texas, and Lindsey McAlarnen of Omaha, Nebraska.

Services will be private. Inurnment will take place at South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Florida, where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VNA/Hospice Foundation, 920 37th Place, #101, Vero Beach, FL 32960, or online at vnatc.org.

Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach is entrusted with arrangements.
