Virginia F. Schmalz

Virginia Frances Schmalz, 86, Vero Beach FL, formerly of Harbor Beach MI, passed away Sunday August 2, 2009 in Life Care of Palm Bay, FL, after a long illness.
She was born September 22, 1922 in Croswell MI, to the late Edward and Teresa (Ultsch) Walsh, and moved with her family to Harbor Beach in the mid-1920s. She attended OLLH elementary school and Harbor Beach High School (Class of 1940), then St. Marys Business College in Detroit prior to employment with the former Huron Milling Company as an accountant.
Virginia was united in marriage on January 4, 1951 to Chester E. Schmalz in Harbor Beach. Their son, Mark, was born in 1952. Chester preceded her in death in February 1985. She was also predeceased by her brother Frank (Lois) Walsh, as well as sisters Ella Mae (Mike) Rowe and Marie (Charles) Carson.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking, conversation and cards with her many friends, and also liked to travel as health permitted. In her retirement, she was involved in political activities in Florida, also served in the Arthritis Foundation and her condominium association.
She is survived by one son, Mark Schmalz, of Gainesville FL and Vero Beach FL, one sister Margaret Ann (Pete) Ney of Bad Axe MI, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are planned for March 8, 2010 at Crestlawn Cemetery, Vero Beach, where her cremains will be interred in her husbands burial place.
Virginia was a beautiful, kind, witty woman who cheered countless people with her generosity and good humor. She is, and will continue to be, greatly missed by all who were privileged to enjoy her love and friendship.
