Walter Albert Nies, Jr., 81, of Vero Beach, FL died Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, FL.
Mr. Nies was born August 24, 1928 in Farmington, ME and moved to Vero Beach in 1954 from his birthplace.
He had owned the Downtown Supermarket in Vero Beach. Mr. Nies was a veteran of the US Navy and loved miniature horses.
Survivors include his wife Vera Janet Nies of Vero Beach, daughters Cheryl Nies, Kathy Nies and Sandra Loudermilk all of Vero Beach, son Barry W. Nies of Fellsmere, FL, sisters Eleanor Sowell of Vero Beach, Loraine Hodges of South Windham, ME and Beverly Reed of Vero Beach, four grandchildren, Rebecca and Amber Nies, Kelley and Katlyn Loudermilk and one great-grandchild, Brayden Nies.
He was predeceased by his father, Walter Albert Nies, Sr., mother, Rose E. Nies, and a sister Jessie Sampson.
Services: The family will receive friends 2-3 PM, Saturday, October 10, 2009 at the Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home with a life celebration service at 3 PM followed by a reception at the Parish Hall of St. John of the Cross 2355 82nd Avenue, Vero Beach, FL. 32966.
