Wilbur "Gene" Thornton, 78, of Vero Beach, FL passed away December 14, 2013 at Indian River Medical Center.

He was born March 2, 1935 in Vero Beach to James Allen and Jennie Thornton.

Gene's first Love was to God, he was a man of devoted faith and the beloved husband of 57 years to Mildred E. Thornton, who predeceased him in 2010.

He is survived by his brother, James L. Thornton; uncle, William Thornton; cousin, Elaine Greaser and sister-in-laws, Terrie Thornton, Mo Thornton, Norma Thornton and many extended family members. He was predeceased by his brothers, Wayne M. Thornton and Kenney A. Thornton.

Gene leaves behind numerous friends and family members to mourn his passing.

He was a good friend and beloved man too many. Those whose life he has touched will never forget him and his loving wife.

Gene will rest with God in his loving embrace. May God bless him and embrace his loving soldier of faith.

A gathering of family and friends will be held 6-7pm, Friday, December 20, 2013 with a memorial service to follow at 7pm at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.
