Obituary

William (Bill) Roberts III, 69, died June 13, 2013 at VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach.

Born in Cohoes, NY, he was a resident of both Waterford and Cohoes, coming to Florida in 1988, and residing in Vero Beach for the past 3 years.

Bill was 1962 graduate of the former Keveny Memorial Academy in Cohoes. He joined the U.S. Navy and served at the U.S. Naval Air Facility, Andrews Air Force Base in Washington, D.C. as an E-5 electrician during the Vietnam era, and honorably discharged in 1967. He retired from the Facilities Maintenance Department of SouthTrust/Wachovia Bank (Wells Fargo) in 2006.

Bill loved spending time with his family. He was a very proud grandfather attending his grandchildren's school, sports and social events. A lifelong fan of the N.Y. Giants and N.Y. Mets, he enjoyed playing golf and fishing. He was a 20-year member of the F.B. Peck Hose Volunteer Fire Company in Waterford, NY, where he served terms as Assistant Fire Chief and Fire Chief. He was a parishioner of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach, and a 4th degree Knight of the church's Knights of Columbus Council.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 49 years, Judith (Trembley) of Vero Beach; cherished children: daughters, Darlene (Kevin) Hachmeister of Melbourne, Florida and Deborah (Steven) Goss of Port St. Lucie; son, David Roberts (Kathleen) of Latham, NY.; adored grandchildren, Liam and Jack Hachmeister, Kaitlyn and Kirsten Goss, Matthew and Emily Roberts; sister-in-law, Doreen Trembley of Boynton Beach, Florida; brother-in-law, Richard (Deborah) Trembley, niece Erin Trembley, nephew Greg (Tanya) Williams, all of Simpsonville, South Carolina; nephew, Kevin (Michelle)Trembley, grand-nephew, Noah of Boca Raton, Florida; maternal aunt, Viola Dalpe of Troy, NY, and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Jr. and Dolores (Bechard) Roberts, his brother David, and his grandson, Andrew Goss.

There will be no viewing hours. A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, 7560 26th Street, Vero Beach at 10 a.m. on June 18, 2013. Family and friends are invited for a light lunch and refreshments immediately following Mass at the John A. Crowley Parish Hall on 82nd Avenue (west on 26th Street and south on 82nd Avenue), Vero Beach. Bill will be buried with full military honors at the South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, where a private family service will be held at a later date.
