Obituary

William Aston Schellhammer, 75, of Vero Beach, FL died Monday, February 4, 2008 in Ft. Pierce, FL.
Mr. Schellhammer was born June 17, 1932 in Warren, PA and moved to Vero Beach 10 years ago from Erie, PA.
He was a graduate of the University of Mississippi, a member of the Ole Miss Alumni Association, and a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean War. Mr. Schellhammer was a teacher in Delaware and Pennsylvania and a professor at Mercyhurst College in Erie. He also was a sportswriter and was widely honored for his coverage of professional league sports. He was the author of The Baby Blue Casebook, minor league editor for The Dodger Dugout and LADugout.com for the FOX Sports webpage and had served as a scout for the LA Dodgers.
Survivors include his wife Carolyn A. Schellhammer of Vero Beach, daughter Nan Cogdell of Vero Beach, sons Michael Schellhammer of Arlington, VA and Thomas Schellhammer of East Chester, NY, step-daughter Christina Tononi of Summerville, NC, seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by a daughter Susan Limon, his sisters Mary McCausland and Ruth Maier, and a brother James Schellhamer.
Services: A Life Celebration gathering will take place 4-7 PM, Saturday, February 9, 2008 at the Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach.
