William A Ellis, 95, of Port St. Lucie, FL died Saturday, February 12, 2011 at his home.
Mr. Ellis was born December 15, 1915 in Richmond Hills, NY and had lived in Bayside and Douglaston, NY prior to moving to New Port Richey, FL then Stuart, FL eventually Port St. Lucie, FL..
He was an Army Veteran of WWII, serving as First Lieutenant in the 189th Ordnance Battalion during Asia-Pacific campaigns in Luzon in the Philippines and New Guinea. He was commissioned at Officer Candidate School, received several honorary medals and was awarded a Bronze Star for his service. He graduated from Cooper Union as a chemical engineer, was a certified P. E., and served 35 years as Chief Engineer for Rockefeller Center Management Inc. in New York City.
Survivors include sons William Ellis of Garden City, NY, Edward Ellis of Basking Ridge, NJ, James Ellis of New York City, NY, Charles Ellis of Stuart, FL, Robert Ellis of St. Petersburg, FL; daughters Mary Ellis of Calgary, Alberta, Dorothy Ellis of New York City, NY, Elizabeth Stasiak of Floral Park, FL, eleven grandchildren, and his former wife Elizabeth M. Ellis.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth.

A private memorial service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia at a later date.
