William James Gibson, Jr., 85, of Vero Beach, FL died Sunday, February 22, 2009 at the Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.
Mr. Gibson was born February 8, 1924 in Clinton, IN, grew up in Hazel Park Michigan and raised his family in Royal Oak Michigan. He lived part time in Vero Beach, FL for the past 20 years before becoming a full time resident in September of 2008.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Pattons 3rd Army as a Sergeant, where he was awarded the Silver Star. Bill attended Michigan University and graduated with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration. He later attended the University of Michigan graduating with a Masters in Education. Mr. Gibson became an Elementary School Teacher in Hazel Park school system then transitioned to become the Principal of Edison Elementary School and later of Hoover Elementary School. He spent his free time before and after retirement on the golf course.
Survivors include his wife of 51years, Louise H. Gibson of Vero Beach; sons John H. Gibson (Linda) of Eaton Rapids, MI, William J. Gibson III (Jill) of Royal Oak, MI; daughter Jean E. Martin of Mason, MI; sister Yvonne Wright (Kenneth) of Vero Beach; and six loving grandchildren.
Services: A memorial celebration will take place at 2:00PM, Saturday, February 28, 2009 at the Tarpon Island Club, Club House in Vero Beach.
