William J. McCoy, Jr., 80, formerly of Miami, FL passed away Saturday morning May 10, 2008 at the VNA/Hospice House in Vero Beach. The son of William J. and Mary (nee Quinn) McCoy, William, Jr. was born November 9, 1927 in Philadelphia, PA.
William had been a Water Plant Operator for the City of Miami and the City of Vero Beach before his retirement. He was a veteran of both WW II and the Korean War, serving in the US Coast Guard and US Army. He was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach, the Florida Irish American Society, the Notre Dame Club of Vero Beach, the Moose Lodge and the DAV.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years JoAnn McCoy, son William J. McCoy, III and his wife Katherine, son Martin McCoy and his wife Gisela, grandchildren Caitlin and Caroline McCoy, brother-in-law Paul Owens, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and his four sisters Marguerite Corley, Anne Owens, Mary Chieffalo and Sister Elizabeth McCoy.
The family will receive friends 4-7 PM Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at the Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach with a prayer service at 6:30 PM. Mass will be celebrated 10 AM Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at St. Helen Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Ft. Pierce, FL with military honors by VFW Post 3918.
