William Harry Merrill, 90, of Vero Beach, FL died Saturday, June 21, 2008 at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach.
Mr. Merrill was born May 5, 1918 in Portland, ME and moved to Vero Beach in 1988 from Sebago Lake, ME.
He was a Bronze Star and Silver Star recipient, serving with the 103rd Infantry in World War II from 1941 - 1945 of which three and a half years were spent in the Pacific Theatre including the Philipines. Mr. Merrill was a retired corporate buyer in major appliances for several stores in Portland, ME and Springfield, MA. In Vero Beach he worked at Dodgertown for ten years and attended the Community Church.
Survivors include his wife Barbara K. Merrill of Vero Beach; sons Scott K. Merrill of Long Beach, CA, William H. Merrill of Vero Beach and Craig R. Merrill of Vero Beach; daughter Betsy M. Nelsen of Vero Beach; brother Donald Merrill of Old Orchard, ME; sister Eleanor Chandler of Portland; eight grandchildren and a great grandchild.
He was predeceased by his parents Philip and Alice Merrill and sisters Marguerite Messer and Barbara Webber.
Services: A memorial celebration will take place 10 AM, Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home Chapel in Vero Beach. Interment will follow at South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL.
